DIY Paper Doll Costume for Halloween

I am so excited to have put together this Halloween Paper doll costume this year. It will be completed with anime doll makeup and a big red buffon wig.

This is an easy no-sew, last-minute easy Halloween costume idea.
Here is how mine came together.

Supplies needed:
2 pieces of poster board. This color choice will all depend on your outfit. I chose white as I knew I would be painting it.
                 pencil
                 scissors
a formfitting outfit you already own
                 sharpie or another permanent marker
paint or decorative tapes to color in designs
                 stapler and staples
                 elastic
                 straight edge

1.  Go searching for outfit inspiration, just don't go too long or too fancy. It is was easier walking in a two-piece outfit above the knee than a long dress. This costume does not bend very well. Also, you are going to be coloring this in so the pattern should be something your comfortable working with.

2. Lay out an outfit you already own on the poster board to get your size parameters. Lightly trace around your existing outfit with pencil and remove. Now construct your paper doll outfit within the parameters you just established.

3. Remember to add tabs using your straight edge,

4. Now color or paint in your pattern and design.

5. Go back and outline your dress and tabs in sharpie.
6. Cut out your dress/ outfit.

7. Take your elastic and attach 1 piece around the waist of your skirt. so it can be slipped on and off. Remember to leave a little more wiggle room if it is going to be going over your winter gear. And attach 2 more pieces of elastic from each shoulder to just under the underarms. So it fits like your putting your jacket on backward

8.  Try on, add makeup, a wig and a paper accessory and you are done.
I'll make sure I get a picture on Halloween with makeup and do an update. I hope this inspires you to try one out too.

DIY Crayon costume for Halloween

Halloween is my favorite time of year. We spend weeks getting our yard and home decorated all for the night when the little ghosts and goblins come out to play. ;) B started school this year and within her school, they don't do a Halloween per say, they have an orange and black day. So in order to kill 2 birds with one stone, we decided that she is going to be an orange crayon. So with an old t-shirt and a little black felt fabric, this is what I came up with. I think it turned out Awesome! And the best part is that it was a no-sew project. Supplies needed:  1 t-shirt in the size required. 1 box of orange fabric dye (because they didn't' have any orange t-shirts in her size) 1 wooden spoon 1 large container for dying remnant black fabric. I used black felt because that is what I had on hand. 1 pattern for the Crayola font - I used this one Crayola pattern  and made the size adjustments accordingly when I was printing it out. For the crayon label banding, I just wi

Sailboat at sunset watercolor painting tutorial

Just a quick demo on how I painted this sailboat at sunset. Colors used: Indian Yellow, Napthol Red, Alizarin Crimson, Royal Blue, Burnt Sienna and Brillant Orange and permenant ink First draw out your image and mask off your sun spot - dry. I chose to use ink as a base to this painting applying it both directly and using it as a wash to add some shadows. Next wet the entire sky area. Working around your sun spot start by adding a graduated wash of indian yellow from the bottom to about 3/4 the way up, then add in alizarin crimson, and at the top work in a band of royal blue letting it run down a little. DRY The sky is not holding the weight I need it to so I wen over it again using the same colors and technique. This time adding a band of brilliant orange along the bottom. Looking better but still not quite there. So lets dry and move on to another area so that I can come back and judge the values. The sails were added using a mix of BS, brilliant orange and indian yellow. D

Unisex Crocheted Hexagon Slippers

I  found this pattern for these hex slippers on ravlery last year and love the pattern so much I have now made 3 pairs. They are an extra warm cabin slipper.    These are not for beginners because of the adjustments you have to make when making and attaching the soles, but overall these slippers are fairly easy to stitch up and a great way to stash bust your yarn. http://priscillascrochet.net/free%20patterns/Wearables/Hexagon%20Boot%20Slippers.pdf This hexagon slipper has a double thick sole and is made up of 3 motifs per slipper but if you wanted to make them into slipper boots just add 2 more motifs at the top of each slipper attaching in the front and back V and sides.  I did take into consideration some of the other peoples reviews that have worked up these slippers and rounded off the toes on the last 2 rows by sc2tog at each end. Also the instructions were not that clear on the hook sizes for the different shoe sizes, I used a 5 for these pairs ranging from size 7 femal
