How to draw demo- Horse and Rider in Pencil

Well it is finally done - thank heavens! And over the next few days I will be posting what I have been working on over the past 2 months. This is a double portrait- kinda - of my second cousin and her favorite pony out in the field. This was NOT the easiest piece I have ever done and it was definatly a challenge going from color to black and white again. On with the show. Stage 1 is the line drawing and the most important of all stages. Careful planning at this stage will guide you through the rest of the process with ease. Remember every line is an opportunity for a value change so plan.. plan.. plan. Hope you can see these first 2 steps Now its all relative.. LOL ;) I tend to bounce around allot when i work because 1. I get bored easy. 2. I tend to see how one area works against another. If you see in this stage I have started placing some of my darkest darks - the lightest lights will be the paper itself. Any other value that i put in will be in between these 2. So far there is

When being an artist pays off.

We have all heard the old adage - One mans junk is another man's treasure. Well being a student of the arts and an avid yard saler I am always on the lookout for frames/canvases/inspirational books.. you know. Well these are 2 examples of what people get rid of without knowing what kind of value they have. The first one was in a box of about 20 frames i had purchases for $2. We got talking about what I did and they gave it to me for an incredible deal. When i got the box home I started going through it and came across this personal letter from Ronald Reagan - on White House letter head thanking this gentleman for the jelly beans. I think it quite COOL. The next one is a Circa 1918 original photograph of Charlie Chaplin's movie "A Dog's Life". This one was free because I do what I do. I hope this inspires you to look -inside the box- LOL and see what treasures are out there to be found.

From my garden to yours

Good morning all. Well spring has definatly arrived here. It has been exceptionally warm and sunny, competing for the hot spot in the country and we are headed to a record breaker today. :) This little painting was done plein aire yesterday. The little sparrow would have been better but they dont hold still long enough to get a good sketch in. LOL Since putting up our feeders we have had blue jays, sparrows, chickadees, and a couple gross beaks show up. And of course when they do get very close I dont have my camera handy. Figures! ;)

Rock Canyon

Rock Canyon 16*20 acrylic on stretched canvas Yes between packing, moving, and unpacking i did manage to fit in another painting. LOL ;) Been working on my landscapes lately, I thought this one was done then I photograph it and I now see little things that need tweaking. Mainly done with a pallett knife and a little brush work. Hope you enjoy

Artist Studio Pictures

Welcome to my new studio area. I may as well get these pics posted while it is still organized and presentable. ;)As you can see i have NOTHING fancy. Pretty much left over furniture that has been repurposed. An old record player stand - repurposed into a perfect scrapbook paper stand. An old dresser that hides all craft and scrapbooking supplies. An extra large work table top that is a good size for cutting fabrics and sewing at as well it is large enough to pull a full sheet of watercolor out. From previous posts you will see that i usually work on multiple projects at one time, so having multi surfaces works well for me. I am also open to the kids rec room so I am always accessible. I am just so happy. My husband commented on never seeing alot of the stuff i have drug out of storage. Some things i even forgot i had. Anyways hope you enjoy.

update

Just a quick update now that I found the computer. LOL Well we have got 99% of everything into the house and in the process of unpacking. I will be back early next week with a painting update. And maybe some new studio pics. ;) Happy painting everyone.
