Wow it has been a long time since I have done one of these little tutorials/ paint alongs. Yesterday I thought I would paint up a little girl. I had no real person in mind, I just started with a basic line drawing getting her perspectives down and picking out my pallett of hmmm.... lets see... quin gold, perm red and cobalt blue, opera and i will toss a little burnt umber in at the end. Lets start by wetting her face and dropping in some color to get a base of where we want to go with this. At this point I will be working with only my yellow and red remember to work around your lights. Still working wet in wet and building up light layers of my yellow and reds all the time thinking about where the sun will hit her face. You will see I added just a dab of burnt umber to place the eyes. Dont forget to leave the highlights. Continue building up your layers of sunshine, but now it is time to start thinking about how and where your facial structures recede. Good morning everyone. I dont know about you but I am really feeling the Christmas - yes i said it :0- crunch. There just doesnt seem to be enough time in the day to get everything acomplished. We just got the Halloween decorations down and now we are pulling the Christmas boxes. The last of our visitors will be arriving tomorrow and the I am hoping it will calm down after that till Christmas, I am getting a little burnt out. :) I have a few things on the go right now. How can you tell when the Holiday season has started??? By the amount of guests in your home. ;) LOL Another set has gone and just enough time to get sheets washed and put back on before the next set of guests arrive. I think I will need to fit in a NAP sometime in there. Avail for purchase SOLD I bought some new paints last week and just couldnt wait to try them out.  Quin Gold *** Love this color and cant beleive that I have been living without this color for so long. :) and the other is Lapis Lazuli, the verdict is still out on this color. Although it does lend itself nicely to stone but still trying to come up with another use for this oddity.  These are 2 of the watercolors I fininished up this weekend. Hi everyone. I cant believe how fast time flies these days. We have been getting Belle ready for kindergarden and potty training x-man. Boys are sooo much harder then girls. :( lol but while we have a min at the table I get a chance to glaze in some colors and every few days I actually get something acomplished. **SOLD Over the weekend Artist Network was offering their free video weekend. In light of recent events I havent been much in the creative mood so this was a little kick start in the creative department. Inspired by Karlyn Holman, Watercolor without Boundries, this little tree frog aceo was created using a toothpick to paint in the black acrylic and traditional brush painting for the watercolor portions. I heard the most thought provoking thing this week when it came to painting portraits. "Every skin tone is made up of the 3 primaries - yellow, red and blue. The only thing that makes us differant is the amount of water used.: I wish I can remember where I heard it, because it has so much truth to it. When i paint people, I use variations of the just the 3 primaries This is the latest in my portrait trading card series and was created using raw sienna, rose madder and cobalt blue. I must really like little boy's in blue as this is the second painting this week I have done with the same color pallette. :) I really love the renaissance feel to this painting, which I seem to be doing a lot of lately. This was my serious project for the week. My little boy blue checking out the tadpoles at grandma's. SOLD I have been working on "loosening up" and "get it right the first time" direct approach to painting in watercolors. The past few weeks have been really bad for hail around here. Up to this point I havent had anything compared to the people around us - but it finally caught up to us and I dont have much garden left. Been working on a few small childrens' portraits in watercolor. Children are so full of character and innocents and are such a joy to paint. Both paintings are were done in a limited pallet using 3 to 4 colors and just letting the layers of color and value brings these babies to life. Hope you enjoy these. Every once in a while I get a chance to stop by my favorite artists site and participate in their weekly drawing event. You try and complete a painting in 2 hours from 16 reference images provided by a different host every week. This week I managed to get 2 done during nap. A quick painting to get me back in the swing of things. The reference image comes from Dewi over at Wetcanvas WDE. This is a weekly drawing event where participants are given 16 images to choose from and 2 hours to create. This week I chose this lovely creature because I Love cows. I dont know about you all but my day does not start without a hot cup of Java. Limited to 2 cups a day, but if I dont get my coffee and 10 min in the morning - just dont talk to me. ;) I think that is why my day starts at 4:30am, just so I can have a little quiet time before the chaos of the day starts.
