Mermaid and Clown Fish Treasure Chest

Good morning everyone. So I have teamed up again with my neighbours for this project. As you may remember from past posts they are professional woodworkers and alot of our projects around here couldnt have been done without their assistance. Well they could have been, but they wouldnt look as pretty as they do. :) Times are tough for everyone this year so we bartered on these Chiristmas gifts. In exchange for building my daughter a chest, I would paint 3 of them up. These chests are so beautifully made with(maple wood, dove tailed and even a secret pop out compartment) so the design had to leave alot of open space and if possible a girly based timeless piece ( but had to have a clown fish and a mermaid ) for 2 and a boy based theme that had to incorporate an antique diving helmet and an anchor for the third. Hmmm. No pressure! :0 Oh and did I say that I only had a week to pull this off. :0 Well this is my first one... It still has to go back and get the hardward, leather strapping and

Mushroom Christmas Ornaments Inspired by Twine Balls

Inspired by some twine ornaments that I made up last week. 6 of these in 3 differant sizes for under $3 Gotta love that :) So I thought I would carry that rustic whimsy tree theme we have going this year and make up some wee-folk inspired mushroom ornaments. These are so very simple to make. What you need: styrofoam balls twigs or dowels cut to 1.5 inch long twine beads - any color small scrap of ribbon glue gun Step 1: Cut aprox 1/3 off the bottom of the ball Step 2: Fold ribbon in 1/2 and insert into a small hole in the top for hanging, glue the twig into the bottom. Step 3: Starting at the top, glue a starting point with your twine. and start wrapping glueing as you go. Keep wrapping all the way under the cap. Once you get to the bottom just cut, tuck and glue. Step 4: Add your embellishments. I simply glued some med sized beads for a little color, But you could go in with some acrylic paint and also add color that way. I found these cute ladybug thumbtacks and thought

Bead and Feather Christmas Ornaments

With snow on the ground and the temps dipping it's beginning to look alot like Christmas. :) :) :) I thought it was a little too quiet for this time of year and I guess I was right. lol A last minute commission has come in and I have to design and paint up some custom made treasure chests for 3 little princesses. Just sent off the draft off for approval and hopefully I can begin final layout tomorrow. So until then I thought I would get some new additions for the tree whipped up while I still have all the stuff pulled out. These are made up of some simple supplies: wire, seed beads, pearls and a plucked feather boa. Hope you enjoy.
